The head of Livia, the Caesar’s wife statue, was found late in the 19th century at Narona (the village of Vid, Croatia, now overlies the site) by Sir Arthur Evans, Curator of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford from 1884 to 1908.

These discoveries have stimulated interest in Evans’s connections with Croatia and it is the purpose of this half-day symposium to explore the wider contexts of Evans’s travels in that region, contemporary Croatian archaeology as well as the additional Evans ‘Croatian’ material in the museum.
