Who is Croatia’s enemy in the EU?

The German MEP Doris Pack has caused a minor stir by pointing out that Croatia has an enemy in Europe determined to force Croatia to join the EU at the same time as Serbia. We’d be rather surprised if she did not mean the United Kingdom. The UK foreign office has been no friend of Croatia since independence, and its pro-Belgrade stance has not been in the interests of the UK, never mind Croatia.

We see that the Economist finally got around to the Tihomir Purda affair, now followed by the Jovan Divjak one. There is no mention of the Yugosphere – given that these incidents make a mockery of the whole concept, that is no doubt very wise.

We will have something on the protests in Croatia later this week. Please do take a look at our twitter service for news updates on various Croatia issues.
